Meet your teacher,

Philip Luu.

With over a decade shaping the fashion industry, Philip is a sought-after freelance pattern cutter. His work spans a variety of renowned brands, and his knowledge is shared as a guest lecturer at leading UK Fashion Colleges.

Let’s see what people have said.

  • During my undergraduate studies, I was fortunate enough to be mentored by Philip Luu, and with his help I completed my Jacket design project in my Second Year and eventually my graduate Final Major Collection, which was an invaluable and inspiring experience. I can share anything interesting. In terms of design, When having 1-1 tutorials with Philip, he is always able to accurately grasp the design style of each student and explore their design potential. He helped me overcome the difficulties encountered during the design process through personalised guidance, and guided me to find my own design style, including the selection of fabrics, accurate pattern cutting, and reasonable design suggestions, etc.

  • When I graduated from my degree in Knitted Textiles, I wanted to develop my skills in Fashion Design and learn more about pattern cutting, draping & developing silhouettes. So, I joined a new FAD project which was focused on getting graduates into the industry and lead by Philip. It was a fantastic experience, I learnt tonnes and enjoyed being taught by Philip and working with the close knit group every week (even on Friday nights!) We worked with a small brand on a live brief, which was great to have an industry project for our portfolios. We explored everything from research methods, to pattern cutting, toiling and layouts for portfolio. It was very beneficial to have an industry professional look at my portfolio and constructively advise ways I could improve it, this expertise is second to none. I had taken part in FAD projects before (all amazing) but this project was by far the most beneficial to building my skillset, widening my knowledge and making me a more confident designer going out into the industry.

  • I worked with Philip during my final collection which provided me with the skills and knowledge to continue my work within the fashion and design industry. During this time, Philip helped me develop as a designer and create a forward thinking and successful collection outcome. We worked on pattern cutting, design development and overall design identity that allowed cohesion throughout my work and I am grateful for the support and opportunity I received throughout this time.
